Leftover Food

How to deal with leftovers?

Have you ever peeped into the refrigerator and found products at the back available there for days or even weeks? Well, you’re not alone. We all fill our carts buying random products, with zero intention to use them.

In every aspect environmental, social, and economical it’s important for us to use most of the resources available to us. It also means purchasing edible products with planning and finding ways to use leftovers.

Here are six ways to prevent wasted food by tackling your leftovers.

  • Don’t throw them away
  • Whether you’re eating at home or dining out, don’t let your leftover go into the trash. When eating at restaurants ask the restaurant staff to pack your leftover food. At home pack the leftover meal and get them into the fridge. Label the pack with leftovers and place them in the fridge where it’s easily visible.

  • Use in tomorrow’s lunch
  • Last night’s leftovers can be your today’s lunch. Just pack them into the right sized container and take them with you. If it’s not enough food pack an extra snack or fruit.

  • Get creative with your leftovers
  • Use your creativity in the kitchen. Leftover vegetables can be backed into new dishes. Use grains and meats into fried rice and soups. Also, search for some new dishes and save their recipes.

  • Store leftovers smartly.
  • Glass storage jars are not only reusable but they make inside products more visible. These jars will help you to remember you’re leftovers and use them timely.  Zip-top bags are used for freezing food properly

  • Use leftovers in soups
  • Grilled or roasted vegetables that you served as a side dish can be used as in soups other days. Blend the vegetables with chicken broth and warm them in a pot. Add salt and pepper and serve with some garlic bread
